The rankings were based on 32 factors, including standardized test scores, graduation rates, class sizes, teacher credentials, funding, and overall student safety. Massachusetts also led the nation in fourth- and eighth-grade math and reading scores and had the highest percentage of students earning passing scores on Advanced Placement (AP) exams.
