Exterior Maintenance
Take a close look at the home’s exterior condition. Does the siding need to be painted? Are the window sills showing signs of rot? Is the deck or patio structurally sound, and will it need to be repaired or restained? These types of updates can be costly, so it’s important to factor potential maintenance into your budget.
Yard Condition
If the yard is fenced, check whether the fence is sturdy and in good repair. Look for signs of wear such as leaning sections or rot. Consider the condition of the landscaping—does the yard need to be cleaned up, reseeded, or mulched? Also, take note of any trees that may be diseased or hazardous, as these may need to be removed promptly for safety reasons.
Yard Size & Lifestyle Fit
Think about how the outdoor space aligns with your lifestyle. Do you envision adding a swing set, planting a garden, or expanding a patio? Make sure there’s enough room to bring those ideas to life. On the other hand, if you prefer low maintenance, consider whether a large yard will require more upkeep than you’d like to take on.
